We Received a Private Watercraft Inspection Order! | S1 E9
While travelling back to the island, we encountered a few obstacles. In Manitoba, we received a private watercraft inspection order from the Invasive Species Control Branch of the Department of Oceans and Fisheries Canada (DFO). An inspection order is a pretty big deal actually. The DFO are tasked with preserving the Canadian waters and protecting them from aquatic invasive species, such as the Zebra Mussel.
In this episode, you will witness the inspection and remediation process performed on our own private watercraft – that would be our barge! The inspectors in Alberta decontaminate our barge and then lock it up, forcing us to go through a THIRD inspection in BC!
We certainly take inspection orders seriously and we will comply with whatever we are required to do. We had no idea that these types of species were even in Canadian waters. This really is an important issue and one that we will be watching from hereon in.
