Moving our Tent and Tidying up Camp

We started our day by setting up a Coleman shade tent, which claims to be easy to set up in just one minute. We were determined to see if we could actually accomplish this! After a bit of teamwork, we managed to get it up. It was a beautiful addition to our camp, providing some much-needed shade as we prepared for our barge launch.
Scouting for a Barge Landing Area

With camp now tidied up, we were eager to find the perfect spot to dock the barge, one that would keep it safe from the wind and allow easy access to our campsite. As we scouted the shoreline, we considered various landing areas and discussed the possibilities. Next up, was to head down the lake to pick up our barge for the first time. The air was filled with excitement!
Let’s Go!

Finally, the moment arrived to launch the barge! We were excited to see it in the water after all the hard work we had put into acquiring and preparing it. As we maneuvered it into position, we felt a mix of nerves and excitement. Would it float? Would it handle well? These questions buzzed in our minds as we took the next steps.
Backing it into the Water

After some last-minute preparations, we backed our barge into the water. To our relief, everything went smoothly! The shallow ramp made it easy to launch, and before we knew it, the barge was floating gracefully on the lake. It was a moment of triumph for both of us, as we had worried about this step for quite some time.
Melodi Learns to Pilot a Boat

With the barge successfully in the water, it was time for Melodi to learn how to pilot it. Ryan guided her through the controls, explaining how to manage the throttle and navigate. Melodi took to it like a natural, and soon we were cruising across the lake. The feeling of freedom and excitement was overwhelming as we realized we were finally on our way to our island base camp.
Sailing into the Main Lake

As we sailed into the main lake, we couldn’t help but marvel at the beauty surrounding us. The water sparkled under the sun, and the anticipation of what lay ahead filled us with joy. This was more than just a barge; it was a vessel for our dreams, a symbol of the homestead we were building together.
Our Home (for now)

Arriving at our temporary island base camp, we settled into our humble beginnings. Our setup was quite simple, with just a tent, a fire, and some portable washroom facilities. Despite the spartan conditions, we felt a deep sense of contentment. This was our home, and we were ready to begin mapping out our future homestead.
As we reflect on this milestone of launching our barge and sailing to our island base camp, we are filled with gratitude for the journey that brought us here. We invite you to follow along as we continue to build our homestead in this beautiful wilderness.
