We’re ready to go! This is our last trip, and the most important thing is right there—hot chocolate! My lovely wife has her shade for her eyes, and we can’t wait to get started.
We are Home
After all the effort it took to arrive back here, we are finally living the dream! Our first task is to set up a primitive base camp. We have no infrastructure in place—no power, no water, no bathroom facilities. We’re cooking over a fire for every meal. The island is so remote it doesn’t even have cell service, which is exactly what we wanted.
Setting up Starlink
Today, we set up our Starlink, our gateway to the world. This sleek technology allows us to connect to the internet without cell service or WiFi. With just a phone and some straightforward instructions, we can connect to the world while in the remote wilderness of Canada.
Benefits of a Solar Generator
We’ve been using a Bluetti solar generator, which has been amazing for powering our devices. It allows us to keep all our film gear and phones charged, powers the Starlink, and even our blender for our morning protein drinks!
All Ready to Go Fishing
After setting everything up, we’re finally ready to head out fishing. We gathered our fishing rods, lemons, onions, salt, pepper, and butter for a potential rainbow trout dinner. We are hopeful (and perhaps a little presumptuous) as we prepare to fish off our island for the first time.
Melodi Beckons the Fish
Melodi is eager to catch fish, reminiscing about her childhood fishing experiences. She’s thrilled and ready to reel in some trout. Ryan gives her tips on casting and reeling, and they share a laugh over the anticipation of catching dinner.
Ryan Loses His Reel in the Lake
In a hilarious turn of events, Ryan accidentally loses his entire fishing reel in the lake! It was a moment of panic followed by laughter as they both realize how ridiculous it is. Thankfully, he manages to retrieve it by hand, but not without some comedic commentary from Melodi.

After some time, Melodi feels a tug and thinks she’s got a fish! However, it flops out of her hands, leading to a mix of excitement and disappointment. They both share a laugh as they recount the near-catch and the chaos that ensued.

Finally, Melodi successfully reels in a beautiful rainbow trout! The joy and excitement are contagious as they celebrate this significant milestone of catching their first fish in their new home. Melodi’s enthusiasm is super funny and heartwarming!
Living the Dream
As the sun sets, Ryan reflects on how beautiful the island is and how surreal it feels to be living their dream. They both acknowledge that while there is a lot of work ahead, the joy of their lifestyle makes it all worthwhile.
