Doing Laundry – Island Style!
With summer approaching and family visiting, we found ourselves in need of quick, functional shelters. We’ll be transforming a shed into a cozy little bedroom for our guests. This temporary setup not only provides shelter but also offers stunning views of the lake. We’ve cleared a lot of underbrush, making the area around our tiny cabin feel more open and inviting.
This is the Life
As we work on our wilderness island, we are continually in awe of the beauty that surrounds us. Painting the greenhouse allows for moments of reflection on our off-grid living aspirations. The fresh air and natural beauty energize us as we prepare for a bountiful harvest. Our DIY greenhouse is a key component of making our sustainable homestead a reality.
Orchard? Geo-Thermal Greenhouse? Both?
We’ve identified a perfect spot for an orchard, considering apple, plum, and raspberry plants. This area gets plenty of sunlight, making it ideal for our future homestead greenhouse. We’re also exploring the possibility of a geothermal greenhouse, which would be a fantastic addition to our off grid homestead. Planning these areas requires careful consideration to ensure they thrive in our remote living environment.
A Spot for the Solar Tracker?
Efficient energy is crucial for our off grid life. We’ve pinpointed a location for our solar tracker array, which will help power our homestead sustainably. This location not only provides ample sunlight but also offers protection from the elements. We’re excited to see how this will enhance our living situation on the wilderness island.
The Raised Bed Goes In!
We’re putting the finishing touches on our raised bed, which will make gardening much easier. This raised bed will allow us to grow a variety of vegetables, enhancing our self-sufficient lifestyle. We’re looking forward to planting our crops and enjoying the fruits of our labor on this beautiful wilderness island.
