If Only We Were Making Hockey Sticks

Amazing superfood - measuring and cutting boards for the deck.

Today, we’re starting off by mapping out our deck. Ryan is measuring long boards and cutting them to size, ensuring everything is level. It’s a task that takes precision, and I’m here to lend a hand. Sometimes, the wood can be warped, which makes the process a bit more challenging. We joke about how this wood would be perfect for making hockey sticks, but we have more important tasks at hand.

On Golden Pond

Amazing superfood - boat ride to check on saskatoons.

After some hard work, we decide to check on our Saskatoons. Opal, our adventurous pup, joins us for the boat ride. We haven’t been back to Berry Point for a while, and we’re eager to see if the berries have survived. Last year was disappointing, and we hope for better luck this time around.

Amazing Turbo Wash!

Amazing superfood - ryan's unique blanket washing system.

On our way, we also have a little recovery mission to wash Opal’s blanket, which was blown into the water by strong winds. Ryan has devised a unique washing system using the boat to rinse it off. As we motor past Berry Point, the blanket is getting a turbo wash, and we can’t help but laugh at our makeshift laundry solution.

What Did Opal Do?

While we’re out, Opal is her usual curious self, exploring everything around her. She’s determined to join us in our adventures, and it’s always entertaining to see her try and direct our actions. It’s moments like these that make our off-grid lifestyle so rewarding.

A Huge Bounty Awaits!

Finally, we arrive at Berry Point, and the sight is promising! The bushes are filled with ripe Saskatoons, and it looks like we’re in for a bumper crop this year. Did you know that these berries are considered a full-blown **superfood**? They have six times the calcium of blueberries, high in protein, fiber, and packed with antioxidants. They’re easy to propagate and can be grown in almost any environment.

We can’t wait to start harvesting and incorporating these **wild superfoods** into our meals. Foraging for wild edibles like Saskatoon berries not only provides a sustainable food source but also enriches our off-grid living experience.

A Harvest of a Different Kind

Our Mosquito Magnet sure works!  Look at this!! We have a pound of moquitos here… all females. This little device interrupts the breeding cycle and really does cause a huge decline in the mosquito population around the tiny cabin.

As we wrap up our day, we reflect on the joys of living off the land and the delicious meals we can create with our wild harvest. Whether you’re into **homesteading life**, **living off the land**, or just curious about **nature’s bounty**, we encourage you to explore the amazing world of foraging!
