Prepping the Site

As we dive into the drone tour private island, the first step is prepping the site for our deck. We want to ensure a solid foundation, so we’re laying out the footings with 24-inch pavers. This will help prevent erosion should the water levels rise. It’s a cheap insurance policy, but one we believe is essential for our off grid living setup.

Prepping the Cabin for the Ledger Board

Next, we’re prepping the cabin to receive the ledger board. This is crucial for supporting the deck joists. We’ve got to make sure everything is level and secure, providing a solid surface for the deck. It’s all about ensuring that our tiny cabin can support the weight of the deck and provide a safe area for us to enjoy the lakefront.

PL Problems!

As with any project, we encountered some hiccups. The PL adhesive can sometimes be tricky, but we are determined to get it right. We want our joints to be secure and to ensure that our deck will be sturdy for years to come. It’s all about patience and a little creativity as we tackle these DIY hacks.

The Right Way to Apply Construction Adhesive

When applying the construction adhesive, we learned the importance of doing it correctly. We want to ensure a solid bond that will hold up against the elements. This is part of our commitment to building a private island homestead that is both functional and beautiful.

Going Over the Building Plans

Finally, we review our building plans. Having a clear vision helps us stay on track. We’re excited about the next steps, including adding stairs and railings to our deck. We envision a space where we can relax, enjoy meals, and take in the breathtaking views of the canadian wilderness.
