We went into a little kind of recycle type thrift store just to see if we could find any cupboards at all, because we really want to have some kind of cupboard to put our media stuff in, if nothing else, just to protect it. We found a couple of cabinets for just $20! Can you believe it? This is just a tiny cabin with no cupboards or anything. But for $20? You cannot go wrong with that price!

The countertop we are using is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a beautiful Acacia wood counter that will serve as a centerpiece for our kitchen. We are so excited to see how it will transform our space, especially once it’s properly installed. This countertop is perfect for our media station and will provide a great area for our various tasks.

Mapping out the power situation

As we start wiring the cabin, we’re mapping out the power situation. This little cabin is going to have a first-class electrical system. We’ll be installing a ton of power points, which is essential for our off grid living. We’re aiming for all the comforts of a modern building while being off grid.

So what is RockWool, anyway?

Wiring lake cabin private island - so what is rockwool, anyway?

We chose RockWool insulation for our cabin because it’s made from volcanic rock, which means no glass fibers in the air. That’s a big plus for us. It’s important to keep the cabin airtight, especially since we’re trying to combat the cold nights and hot days. We’re stuffing it in the corners to ensure everything is properly insulated.

Dry fitting the new counter top

Once the insulation is in, we’ll dry fit the new countertop to see how everything fits together. We’re really excited about this part because it’s the finishing touch that will bring our kitchen area together beautifully. We’ll be measuring carefully to ensure it fits perfectly, without blocking any windows.

Off grid ice machine!

Lastly, we are trying out our new countertop ice machine. Living in the wilderness, having ice is a luxury we are all excited about. We’ll be using water from our reservoir to fill it, and it’s going to make our off grid lifestyle so much more enjoyable. This little machine is a game changer for us!

We are so excited to see how everything is coming together in our off grid cabin. If you want to follow our adventures, check out our social media: Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and our Favorite Things page for our recommended products.
