While we initially hoped to find one closer to Vancouver, our search led us to the beautiful Muskoka lakes in Ontario. It was an early morning when we hit the road, with Melodi taking the wheel while Ryan took a much-needed rest. Our goal? To reach Ontario and pick up our new barge. After weeks of searching for a barge, we finally found one that fit our needs, albeit on the other side of the country!
Yawning is Contagious!
As we traveled, Melodi couldn’t help but notice the contagious yawns from her travel companions. Despite the long drive, we were excited about the prospect of finally getting the barge. The scenery around us was beautiful, and Melodi made sure to stop and admire the sights along the way, capturing the moments that made the trip memorable.
Moose Encounter!
In a delightful turn of events, we spotted a moose swimming with her two calves! This unexpected wildlife sighting was a highlight of our trip. As nature enthusiasts, we cherished this moment, especially after losing footage of elk we had previously seen. The moose sighting felt like a gift, and we took time to appreciate the beauty of the Canadian wilderness.
Our Plans for Interim Shelter
As we continued our journey, we discussed our plans for interim shelter on the island. With only a tent available, we joked about possibly camping on the barge itself to avoid any bear encounters. Our family was soon to join us soon, and we wanted to ensure everything was ready for their arrival.
Why We Need a Barge
We are building a homestead on an island after all, so a barge is crucial for transporting materials and equipment over there from the mainland. We shared our thoughts on why this specific barge was the right choice for us, especially since it includes features that would save us money in the long run. Our excitement grew as we approached the final destination to pick it up.
Pulling into Foots Bay!
We finally arrived at Foots Bay, and the anticipation was palpable. We navigated through the marina, eager to see our barge for the first time. The motor looked great and there was rust visible on the deck, but we felt optimistic about the potential it held for our future projects on the island.
Oh My Goodness… This isn’t Good
As we attempted to load the barge onto the trailer, things took an unexpected turn. With the trailer floating and Ryan’s exhaust in the water, we faced challenges getting the barge secured. The situation was nerve-wracking, but we remained determined to figure it out. Stay tuned for the next episode where we tackle these obstacles!
