Wall Insulation is Done

Today, we finished the installation along the wall and put up the plastic to cover the insulation. We used Rock Wool insulation, which is great for keeping our cabin warm. Cabin life off grid is a lot of work, and after finishing this wall, we felt a huge sense of relief knowing that the insulation was no longer exposed. It’s important to us to have a cozy and functional space, especially as we prepare for colder weather.

When Do We Install the Floor?

We discussed the best timing for installing the floor. We agreed that it’s essential to complete the walls before laying down the floor to avoid any mess. Our goal is to use tongue and groove pine for the interior walls, which will brighten up the space significantly. The lighter the wood, the better, as we want to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for our cabin life off grid.

Off Grid Life: What’s Gotten Into Opal?

Our dog, Opal, has been quite the character lately. She’s taken her role as our guard dog seriously, warning us about everything from squirrels to beavers. While she can be a bit skittish, it’s clear she enjoys being part of our off grid adventures. We take her warnings seriously, as you never know what might be lurking nearby! Cabin life off grid has inherent perils – and having Opal here is a great security system.

Opal Loves Boating!

Opal has grown more comfortable with boat rides. In the past, she would hide, but now she jumps right into the boat, ready for adventure. You can see more It’s heartwarming to see her embrace cabin life off grid on our island – and become more confident in her surroundings.

Collecting Our Truck from the Paint Shop

We finally picked up our truck from the paint shop, and it looks amazing! After being in rough shape for a while, it’s a relief to see it all fixed up. See what happened to the truck here… We are excited to have it back for our trips to the mainland and for transporting supplies back to the island.

Uh Oh… Is Our Barge Leaking?

Upon returning to the island, we discovered that our barge had an inch and a half of water in it, which raised concerns about a potential leak. We spent a lot of time and effort to get it here and make it sea-worthy, and we need to keep everything in good condition as we rely on the barge for transportation. We’ll have to inspect it further and possibly hook up a bilge pump to address the issue.
