Building a Tiny Cabin on our Off Grid Island
The tiny cabin build on our off grid island is progressing nicely. One of the biggest challenges is getting supplies to the island. Then there’s the wholeoff gri thing. Not only must we pack EVERYTHING to the island that we need to survive and build, we also need to pack some form of power to even be able to build.
Thankfully our barge is working out great. This is a special episode because after spending the day building the tiny cabin, logging and land clearing, we end up having a twilight fishing party on the barge! Too much fun! There are a couple of surprises in this video, including an amazing way to remove the skin off of a fish. You won’t believe your eyes! Walking Through the Cleared Road
As we start our day, we take a moment to appreciate the newly cleared road leading to our tiny cabin. This is not just any road; it’s a labor of love, a pathway carved through the wilderness. The excitement builds as we envision what the future holds for us. With each step, we are closer to realizing our goal of building a tiny cabin on our off grid island.
Clearing Space for Our Shop
Next, we focus on clearing space for our shop. This is essential for storing tools and materials as we continue our tiny house build. The process is challenging, but we are determined to make it work. There’s a sense of pride in knowing that we are building a small off grid cabin off that will serve as our sanctuary.
Dropping a HUGE Tree!
One of the most exhilarating moments is when we drop a massive tree. The sound of it crashing down is both thrilling and a little nerve-wracking. This tree will provide the lumber we need for our main off grid cabin we plan on building in the future. We carefully plan the drop to ensure safety and minimize damage to the surrounding area.
When You Are Off Grid, You Improvise…
Living off grid means we often have to think on our feet. It is Ryan’s birthday and Melodi had to think fast… so came up with a creative “cake” that consisted of a oreo cookies and butterscotch pudding fusion. Hey… it’s the thought that counts, right!? Whether it’s finding creative solutions to problems or making the best use of available resources, improvisation is key.
Fishing in the Dark
As the day turns to night, we gather for a fishing party on the barge. Fishing in the dark is a unique experience, surrounded by the sounds of nature. The joys of island life are evident and we appreciate the bounty that the lake provides. We are truly living the remote off grid lifestyle.
How to Clean a Fish
After a successful fishing session, it’s time to clean our catch. We share tips and techniques, making it a fun learning experience for everyone involved. Cleaning fish is a skill that enhances our self-sufficiency as we continue our off grid living adventure.
