Support Beams Laid Over Foundation Piers
With the foundations complete, our next task was to lay the support beams over the foundation piers. Using a combination of construction adhesive and a ton of nails, we engineered these beams to be incredibly strong. It’s fascinating to see how our DIY efforts are coming together as we prepare for our family’s arrival.
Moving Building Materials to the New Build Site
Transporting building materials across the island is no small task. We loaded the barge with lumber to construct the floor structure for our tiny cabin. This phase involved moving our floor joists and plywood to the new build site. The barge was crucial for this efficient shed relocation process.
Opal is Missing!
In the midst of all the activity, our little dog Opal went missing. Her absence added a layer of stress to our day as we prepared for the excavator-assisted building move. Opal is anxious and her leash might have been caught in the brush, preventing her from returning home.
This Will Be Interesting…
Our plan to move the shed with an excavator was ambitious. We wrapped the shed with slings and tape, hoping to lift it without dismantling. Despite our optimism, there were moments of doubt about whether the shed would hold together during the heavy equipment shed move.
Uh Oh… This Might Not Be a Good Idea After All
As the excavator lifted the shed, it became clear that the move was more complicated than anticipated. The shed’s front dragged on the ground due to the elevation difference, testing our innovative shed moving solutions. We had to re-rig the setup to get the shed onto the barge without damage.
We’re Having an Adventure!
Finally, we got the shed onto the barge. This was a moment of triumph, though the adventure wasn’t over yet. We had to carefully balance the weight on the barge to ensure a safe transport across the water, showcasing our unique shed moving methods.
Showering Under the Stars!
After a long day, we enjoyed a hot shower under the stars. This simple pleasure was a reward for the day’s hard work and a reminder of why we love this off-grid lifestyle. Our outdoor shower setup is one of the many joys of living on our island homestead.
