Our tiny cabin build continues on our off grid private island and we are making progress! We are adding trapezoid windows to our tiny cabin as our build marches ahead… There so much to do… what is next n the build list?

These Trees Are Cabin Crushers!
As we continue our tiny cabin build, we face some unique challenges. One of the biggest concerns are the tall trees around us, which we affectionately call ‘Cabin Crushers.’ While they look majestic, we’ve learned that they are no match for the wild winds of northern B.C. We often find ourselves taking precautions to ensure our safety as we build. These trees pose risks, especially during windy days when they sway ominously above our living space.
Uh Oh… Phone Fell in the Lake
In the midst of our projects, things can get a bit chaotic. While we were on the barge, Melodi accidentally dropped her phone into the lake! The cold water sent a shiver down my spine, as I knew I would have to jump in to retrieve it. Thankfully, it was shallow enough, and we managed to avoid any major mishaps. This incident demonstrates the unpredictability of our daily life while we try building our off grid cabin.
Splash One Bottle of Maple Syrup!
While working on our cabin, we had a minor disaster: a bottle of maple syrup fell and broke! The sight of it made us laugh and cringe at the same time. We are probably the only people that use maple syrup to stain their cabin floor. We quickly assessed the situation and realized that we could salvage some of it. Even amidst the chaos, we find joy in the simple things, like enjoying homemade s’mores later.
Installing the Trapezoid Windows
One of the highlights of our build this episode was installing the trapezoid windows. These windows are not just functional; they let in a lot of natural light and provide stunning views of the trees and sky. The process involved some careful planning and teamwork for us to lift the window into place. We can already imagine the beautiful light it will bring to our off grid tiny cabin.
Planning the Deck Layout
Next on our agenda was planning the layout for our deck. We envision a space where we can relax and enjoy the beauty of our surroundings. Our discussions were filled with enthusiasm as we sketched ideas and measured out the space. This deck will not only enhance our living area but also serve as a perfect spot for entertaining and enjoying the outdoors.
Smores Indoors – On the Cooktop!
Since we can’t always have a campfire, we got creative and made s’mores indoors using our cooktop! It was a fun and messy experience, but the results were delicious. These little indulgences are some of the simple joys of living off grid we enjoy while adapting to our off grid environment.
