We are Clearing Land and Road Building
We are now clearing a little more land for our work shop and building a short road to connect the shop to our cabin area. Now this is progress! It turns out that our trusty little doggie, Opal, really doesn’t like the color orange… to the extent that she tries to eat anything orange. And Uncle Kent is wearing orange, so this could be interesting…

Melodi the Artist

Today, our brother-in-law and a family friend enjoy an early morning paddle. Later they are going to be working in the woods clearing land. We are being selective about what we take down and will not remove any trees without thought and attention. Meanwhile, Melodi is outside in the wilderness, working on a sign for our new outdoor washroom, which we’ve decided to call the Bird Bath. Her idea is to make if look woodsy and natural, fitting for Bird Island.
Meet the Bird Bath. Sort of…

As we prepare for our sister’s visit, we realized that having bathroom facilities would be great. We thought it would be fun to pull out all the stops and create a bathroom for her, and perhaps we can use it afterward too! The Bird Bath is not just a name; it represents our commitment to building a comfortable living space in this wilderness.
Coolest Fish Skinner Ever!

We had an incredible find—a vintage fish skinner that reminds Melodi of her childhood fishing trips. Melodi’s sister friend found them on Facebook Marketplace, and brought them up to surprise her. How thoughtful! Now we can use this tool for our fishing adventures. It’s these little things that make our off-grid living experience even more enjoyable.
Just Like That… A Road!

Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Our brother-in-law and our machine operator friend have successfully cleared land for road building. We now have a real road connecting our shop to the cabin area, and it’s incredible to see what was just a vision come to life. We are so grateful for their hard work and expertise in clearing raw land.
Fireside Wrap Up – The ‘Cracker Saga’ with S’mores!

As the day winds down, we gather around the fire to share stories and enjoy some delicious s’mores. It’s moments like these that we cherish – spending time with family and the experiencing the satisfaction that comes from off grid living. We all share stories and laughs while savoring the sweet treats. It’s a beautiful way to end a day full of hard work.
We are excited about the progress we’ve made in clearing land and building our off grid cabin. It’s a rewarding experience, and we’re grateful to have family and friends by our side.
