Unbelievable! We’re Sleeping in the Outhouse?

So why are we sleeping in the outhouse? To get away from the flies. We have been busy collecting materials and tools and getting to know the island. So far, we have been living in a tent and cooking over a campfire while we get organized.

Our First Build on the Island

We’ve started our adventure by assembling the first of two sheds we purchased. It’s incredible how quickly things come together. The shed will be a perfect place to store tools and materials, keeping them safe from curious critters. Little did we know, this tiny shed would soon become our new sleeping quarters for added security from the wilderness. It’s a cozy little spot, providing a sense of ownership and comfort on our island.

These Flies are Something Else

Sleeping in outhouse - dealing with flies

The flies here are relentless! It’s one of the reasons we’re considering sleeping in the outhouse. The tent isn’t much of a barrier against the buzzing pests. We find ourselves constantly swatting and trying to keep them at bay. A little improvisation, like moving to a more enclosed space, might just be the key to a good night’s rest.

Fishing Interrupted

Fishing is one of our favorite pastimes here. It’s not just about catching dinner but enjoying the peacefulness of the lake. Our latest outing had its hiccups, with lines getting caught and lures lost, but the memory of our first rainbow trout keeps us motivated. Each trip is an adventure, and we’re determined to land another catch soon.

Melodi’s Dream Come True

Sleeping in outhouse - melodi's dream cabin

Melodi dreams of listening to the loons by the cabin one day. It’s moments like these that make the hard work worthwhile. We envision a place where we can relax and enjoy the simple sounds of nature. Until then, we’ll continue to make the most of our current setup, boiling water over the campfire and savoring each meal cooked outdoors.

There’s a Puppy Doggy!

Our furry companion adds so much joy to our island life. She’s always exploring, sometimes getting into mischief, like hopping onto the barge without her life jacket. Her antics keep us entertained and remind us that even in the wilderness, there’s always room for a little playfulness.

Fireside Chat

As the day winds down, we gather around the campfire, reflecting on our progress and planning our next steps. It’s amazing how light the evenings stay, allowing us to enjoy these moments a bit longer. We talk about future improvements, like adding a hot water system, and dream about the day when our island home is fully realized.
