Stranded On A Wilderness Island Part 2

We are stranded on our wilderness island with no way off!! This is the second part of the ‘stranded’ story because I realized that there was lost footage from Ryan’s GoPro that would be able to tell the story from his perspective.

Planning our Solar System

Planning our solar system setup

As we enjoy our beautiful Adirondacks on the sand, we take a moment to appreciate the day and dive into checking out the wet lumber we found a few days ago. The water levels have receded, which allows us to explore Berry Point, our initial landing site when we first came to the island.

Our priorities remain clear: finish the cabin, establish water access, and complete the birdbath. We also need a solar system to power our future projects like a shop and docks. Ryan has been working tirelessly on a sustainable solar system that will support our multi-stage build.

Man-eating Puppy Dog

Opal, the man-eating puppy dog

Our furry friend Opal has become a humorous part of our life here. While she may be a man-eater, she only targets lumberjacks! Last year while family was here visiting for a week, Uncle Kent was working the chainsaw in orange chaps.  Opal eats anything orange… so she nipped poor Uncle Kent right in the behind! Thankfully, our only real predators so far have been mosquitoes and some pesky flies.

Greenhouse Thoughts

Greenhouse project

Another exciting project on our horizon is a greenhouse. Back at our home base, we’ve been nurturing a makeshift greenhouse. Ryan threw it together with poly and 2x4s, and it’s become my favorite spot for growing food. I never thought I’d enjoy gardening as much as I do now!

Berry Point – Then and NOW

Berry point view

As we head to Berry Point, we notice the beauty of springtime. The water has receded so we head over to air the lumber out.  The lake is currently filled with pollen, but soon it will clear up. We reflect on how our cabin and the surrounding area have transformed since we first arrived.

Bonus Footage! How this all happened…

Bonus footage of island life

This section reveals some behind-the-scenes footage, showcasing how we manage life on our island. We talk about our infrastructure plans for roads, water, power and so forth. From the challenges of living off the grid to the joys of building our homestead, it’s an enlightening experience for us all. We are truly living our wilderness island dream!

This Prop is Mangled

Mangled prop

Our day takes a turn when we discover that the prop has become mangled during our attempts to navigate the channel. Ryan removed the prop to try to beat is straight, and in the process he dropped a crucial piece into the lake. Without that drive sleeve, we’re stuck on our island.

Despite this setback, we remain optimistic. If you haven’t seen episode 5 yet, we encourage you to as it follows our attempts to retrieve the drive sleeve from the chilly lake bottom. We’ve learned that not every day will go smoothly, but together, we can overcome any obstacle. This is living, and we are doing it to the fullest!
