A Surprise Awaits!
We ventured out to assess the damage after the storm, and we were greeted with a shocking sight. A massive tree had fallen, splitting like a stick in the wind. It was a surprise to us, as we hadn’t anticipated such damage. The beach area is expanding, and we identified a few trees that need to be addressed, especially since one of them was teetering precariously. The power of the wind is unreal, and it’s concerning to think about the potential for more trees to snap.
Who Needs an Excavator?
As we examined the fallen trees, we realized that many of them were interconnected, holding each other up. The fallen tree revealed a rotten core, indicating its weakened state. It was a sobering moment for us, but Opal quickly diverted our attention to her land-clearing efforts. It was so cute to watch her… We think she was trying to tell us that she could do the digging for us instead of renting an excavator!
The Fun Never Stops…
Despite the chaos, we found moments of joy. We were pleased with the progress on our solar system. After the storm, we were looking forward to hooking up the inverter and runni our setup with the solar panels. It’s exciting to think about the energy independence this will bring to our homestead.

We discussed the layout for the solar panels, ensuring they would receive optimal sunlight. The trees in the area will eventually be trimmed to allow more sun exposure. We are working towards a sustainable energy solution that will power our off-grid lifestyle.
Building the Inverter Shed
As we move forward, one of the most important projects is constructing a small shed for our inverter and batteries. This will keep our equipment safe and organized. It’s a step towards creating a more efficient off-grid system and allows us to store our supplies effectively. We’re excited to see how this will enhance our living conditions on the island.
