Where to put our Solar Panel Array?

We need to find the best possible location for our solar panel array. This is a critical step. The location needs to have an unobstructed view of the sun, and the solar panel array needs to be safe from potentially falling trees. In this episode we continue our quest to find the perfect location for the array, balancing ease of install, practicality, distance of wire runs and other factors to maximize the efficacy of the solar panels.

As we dive into this project, we’re carefully unpacking our very first solar panel from a crate holding 30 solar panels. Initially, we were a bit nervous about opening it up due to some bumps during delivery. Thankfully, the moment of truth revealed that most of them were intact. We’re excited to start utilizing this off grid solar power system to enjoy clean, quiet power without the hassle of gasoline-powered generators.

Clearing Land for Solar Array

With the panels ready, we began assessing the land for the solar array. Clearing land is essential to ensure our solar system has an unobstructed view of the sun. We’ve identified a couple of leaning trees that pose a risk and need to be removed for safety. This part of the process is crucial for maximizing the efficiency of our solar panels, as we want them to be positioned perfectly for sunlight exposure.

Selecting Dangerous Trees to Fall

Safety is paramount, especially when it comes to falling trees that could potentially damage our off grid cabin build. We’ve decided to consult professionals for removing the larger trees that are leaning towards our cabin. It’s a tough decision, but necessary for a secure setup of our solar array. Remember, these trees are called ‘cabin crushers’ for a reason! Ensuring our off grid solar power system is safely installed is our top priority.

Don’t Let Life Pass You By

As we work on our project, it’s important to take a moment to appreciate the beauty around us. Melodi is a terrific partner… she always finds time to reflect on our surroundings, reminding us not to let life pass us by. This mindset is crucial when living off the grid. We’re embracing the experience of building our wilderness cabin and enjoying the little moments that come with it.

Opal Was Naughty

While off-island our dog Opal gets into some mischief and needed a ‘time-out’ to think about things. Awwww… how can you ever stay mad at that little sweet face??  It’s these funny moments that make our life on the island so enjoyable. While working on the solar panels and clearing the area for our solar panel array, we cherish the laughter and joy that comes with living in harmony with nature.
