What are we going to do?
We find ourselves in a beautiful location, but with a serious problem. The Kubota is stuck too close to the lake, and we need to figure out a way to gently tug it out. Our plan involves using neighboring trees and a winch or two to implement this Kubota recovery. It’s clear that this will be our toughest task so far, and the stakes are high.
Field Engineering
Field engineering is in full swing as we try to create a solution. We’re using a piece of metal to secure the winch cable, hoping it will provide enough strength to pull our Kubota SVL75-3 out of the mire. With a 12,000-pound winch and a 20,000-pound winch at our disposal, it would seem that we would have enough pulling power to complete this job. We don’t. Pepper is not budging! There’s a lot of uncertainty about whether this setup will even work.
I won’t pull the arm off, honey
As we prepare for the winching process, we have to be cautious. I reassure Melodi that I won’t pull the arm off the Kubota while setting up the winch. The tension in the air is thick as we prepare to engage the winch. Speaking of tension, with the winch line stretched taught, I neglected to drape a moving blanket over it to absorb the energy in case it snapped. This was a dangerous oversight and we are grateful to our viewers for pointing out this important tutelage! Recovery is a delicate balance of strength and precision and know-how.
Well, that didn’t work…
After several attempts to pull the Kubota out, we face setback after setback. The winch doesn’t seem to be working as expected, and our spirits start to wane. We ponder our next move, realizing that we might need to dig out more of the bank to give the Kubota a fighting chance. Each attempt is a test of our patience and determination. This truly our toughest task so far!
Those willows have to go
To make progress, we decide that the willows have to go. They’re obstructing our path and making it harder to dig out the Kubota. It’s tough to remove them, but we know it’s necessary for our success. As we clear the area, we hope that this will create the space we need to finally pull the Kubota free.
The worst ‘stuck’ I’ve ever experienced
Our toughest task so far is truly the worst ‘stuck’ we’ve ever experienced. It’s a combination of stubborn machinery, muddy terrain, and growing frustration. However, through all the setbacks, we find solace in each other’s company and the beauty of our surroundings. We persevere, reminding ourselves that overcoming these obstacles is what off-grid living is all about.
As we reflect on our experiences, we realize that this day has tested our resilience and creativity like never before. We are reminded of why we chose this lifestyle and the small victories we celebrate along the way.
