Is Our Toughest Task Too Tough?
This week, we faced our toughest task yet: freeing our stranded Kubota track loader, Pepper, from a muddy pit of despair. From broken winches to creative engineering with logs and concrete, we stopped at nothing to rescue Pepper. We’ve been at this for two days! Will we succeed?

We have a real mess on our hands!
As we began tackling this task, it became evident that we were in deep trouble. The jack was pushing down into the mud, and we were devising makeshift solutions using broken concrete pieces to stabilize the Kubota. this was going to be our toughest task to date.
A glimmer of hope?
After some effort, we started to see signs of progress. The left side of the Kubota was beginning to lift, and we could finally see a void where there was none before. This little bit of movement gave us hope amidst the muddy chaos. Perhaps our toughest task might not be too tough after all.
Opal is helping! (sort of)
Our dog Opal joined the scene, adding a bit of levity to our hard day. Her mischievous nature was welcomed as she has no idea of the misery that has befallen us. We both are wondering if all the roadblocks we are facing today would truly make our toughest task too tough to accomplish. Opal’s excitement meant that she was in the way more than ever being truly helpful. But she is so sweet… always there to remind us that life is not all about managing chaos and work! Our little furry friend is always game for a little fun, even if her timing isn’t always the best!
Oh no… that can’t be good
As we continued, disaster struck again and our winch broke. It was a setback that brought a wave of frustration over us. How could this be happening? It seemed we were facing a never-ending onslaught of failed attempts and broken equipment. This was supposed to be our solution, and now we were back to square one. We felt firmly in the jaws of defeat and we found ourselves asking “is this, our toughest task too tough?” It sure seemed that way.
What happened now??
Despite the challenges, we managed to regroup and come up with a new plan. We tried to make the best of the situation, using whatever we could find, and finally, after two exhausting days, we saw the Kubota start to move. It was a moment of triumph that felt like a victory after almost accepting that our toughest task just might be too tough for us. With a combination of shoveling, incessant jacking, breaking most of our tools, jamming logs under the tracks, using the winch in tandem with the power of the Kubota, we get him to move… a little.
After all the hard work, we finally freed Pepper from the mud!
So… was our toughest task too tough after all? NO WAY!! It took an amazing amount of grit and determination. There was no quit in either of us as we battled together to free our beloved Pepper. It was such a relief to see our Kubota back on solid ground, and we couldn’t wait to give him a well-deserved bath. This was the most epic “stuck” we have ever been in and we are not in any hurry to live through this again.
