A bit of a RUFF day!
Okay, we’ve had a bit of a rough day. Our dog hasn’t been feeling well, and we had a few unfortunate incidents in the truck. Ryan had to take out her bed and was gagging from the smell. But amidst all of this, we couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. After cleaning up, we returned to the lake, only to find our truck had become a muddy mess again. We thought it was bad before, but this was something else!

So now we’re faced with a partially submerged boat, and it’s not looking good. This little boat is our only means to get supplies to our island homestead, and it’s filled with water. We had to bail it out, and Ryan was getting soaked in the process. It’s a bit comical when you think about it, but it’s also a reminder of the realities of private wilderness island life.
Hauling supplies to the Island
Despite the mess, we managed to haul supplies to the island. We loaded up the boat with everything we could carry, including some beautiful lavender plants that will help manage our mosquito problem. It’s amazing how much you can fit into a small boat when you’re determined!
How to wire an outlet
As we continue to build out our island homestead, we started wiring outlets into the tiny cabin. Ryan has some experience in this area so we have no worries that everything is being done correctly and safely. Even though there is no zoning on our island, we still must to everything according to the building code. We’ve got a plan to hook everything up to solar panels, which will truly change our off grid living experience. It’s incredible to think how far we’ve come, and this technology is making our lives a lot easier.
Meet Winix!
With the terrible forest fires this season, we’ve had to be proactive. We introduced Winix, our air purifier, which will help keep the air in our tiny cabin clean and breathable. The smoke has been awful, and having a purifier gives us peace of mind as we continue to deal with the fall out from distant forest fires. Smoke from forest fires has been the hardest part of living off grid so far!
Rock in a hard place
Today, we faced a bit of a dilemma while moving our solar panels to their new location. The terrain is uneven, and we had to be incredibly careful not to damage them during the process. Thankfully, with some teamwork and a lot of patience, we managed to get everything set up. We’re excited about the prospect of harnessing solar energy for our self-built homestead.
