Roof is Going On

Today is roofing day! We are going to put on our lovely red tin roof on our tiny cabin. The ceiling inside starts at eight feet and goes up to 14 feet. We chose tin for the roof because it is a one and done material which will probably outlast the two of us. It also allows for easy snow shedding in the winter. Because of the slope and its slick surface, it’s quite treacherous to work on, so we really have to be careful.

A Walk on the Beach

After a productive day, we decided to take a break and enjoy the beautiful beach nearby. It was amazing to see the colors and the clear water. Opal, our dog, was thrilled as well! A day like this makes all the hard work worth it. We found a beautiful spot for a potential northern camp, just water all around with a cabin in the background.

Opal vs The Drone

Dog playing

Opal’s playful nature really shined through as she interacted with the drone. She jumped around, clearly excited and full of energy.  Originally a rescue from Mexico, our little sweet Opal just loves the island life. And so do we… we are loving the life we are building here on our island, and especially enjoy sharing it with our furry friend.

Doing S’mores Indoors

Indoor s'mores

We tried making s’mores indoors for the first time, and they turned out to be amazing! It was a fun experience and a delicious treat after a long day of work. We’ve never had s’mores indoors before, and they were the best we’ve ever had! This little indulgence made our day even sweeter.

Creative Safety Protocol

Safety is paramount, especially when working on a steep roof. We implemented some creative safety measures to ensure Ryan’s safety while he worked up there. It’s essential to be cautious when tackling such projects, especially when the roof is as slippery as ours!

Tiny Cabin Tour

With the roof finally on, we took a moment to tour our tiny cabin. It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. We’re still waiting for our big windows, which will transform the space even more. The view of the lake from inside is going to be breathtaking!

Wrapping Things Up for the Season

Wrapping up the season

As the season comes to a close, we reflect on all that we’ve accomplished. Each step of our tiny cabin build has been a learning experience. Have we may have made mistakes along the way? You bet! But we’ve learned so much and are excited for what’s to come next!
