Our FIRST Night in our Tiny Cabin

The time has finally arrived… we spend our first night in our tiny cabin! What a difference to be able to stand up and move around! This tiny cabin, although very tiny indeed, is still 4 times bigger than our first tiny cabin. Even with no heat, this night sleeping under the stars is going to be so wonderful… we can’t wait!

Our Joolca Hot Shower Setup

One of our favorite features in our tiny cabin is the hot shower under the stars. It’s amazing and we absolutely love it! It’s a perfect way to enjoy the beautiful surroundings while staying clean. The fresh air and the sounds of nature make it a truly enjoyable experience. Who needs a gym membership when you can just build a cabin in the woods? The physical work has definitely helped us stay fit!

Weather Proofing the Roof of the Tiny Cabin

First night in tiny cabin - weather proofing the roof

As we worked on the roof our tiny cabin, we needed to cover the roof decking with a waterproof material. We installed roofing felt to keep everything dry. Even though we encountered some hiccups, such as receiving the wrong flashing, we made sure to take extra precautions to prevent leaks. Once the tin was secured, it felt great to check this job off our list. Our roof was finally water-tight!

Coleman Air Beds Are Awesome

First night in tiny cabin - coleman air beds

We decided to go with Coleman air beds for our first night in the cabin. They are double high and have a built-in rechargeable pump, which makes setup a breeze! As we inflated the beds, we couldn’t help but feel excited about finally having a comfortable place to sleep after all our hard work. We even joked about making the bed frame out of the materials we had on hand!

Getting Material to Make Our New Bed Frame

First night in tiny cabin - getting materials for bed frame

Oh–kay– so it wasn’t a joke after all… We ventured back to our old campsite to pick up some materials for the bed frame. This was a fun adventure, as we reminisced about our first days on the island. We decided to use some thick boards for the frame, allowing us to store items underneath for practical use. The bed frame was designed to be high enough to make getting in and out easy, especially for our older bones!

We Can See the Stars from Our Bed!

As night fell, we settled into our new bed and turned off the lights. To our delight, we could see the stars twinkling above us! It was a magical moment, feeling so connected to nature. Despite the chill of the night, the warmth of our bed made it an unforgettable experience. We couldn’t believe we were finally spending our first night in our tiny cabin!

Looking Ahead…

First night in tiny cabin - looking ahead

As we reflected on our first night, we felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It may have been a bit chilly, but we were filled with excitement for what was to come. We have plans to continue working on our homestead, clearing more land, and returning to pick up a restored stove that we can’t wait to install in our tiny cabin. The journey is just beginning!
